Ultra-Violence Walkthrough
In this walkthrough I will go through the levels in the way that I feel is the easiest to follow.
I will begin with a simple run through. This will note traps and the key things you must do to complete the level, such as switches and keys. It will point out large encounters and also weapons, super powerups that are available outside of the secrets.
E3M1 Hell Keep
When you first start you are in an unfamiliar environment compared to what you have seen of Doom previously, gone are the days of mass soldiers and here come Imps, Demons, Cacodemons, Lost Souls and Barons of Hell. But who is leading them this time? The Cyber Demon was behind the attacks on the two moon bases but now you are in Hell itself and a new threat has emerged. Activate the flesh switch on the wall ahead and ride the elevator up. Kill the three Imps and make your way over to the large door. Hit the switch on the left of the door which reveals two Cacodemons. If you can, without losing too much health, hit the switch on the right of the door which closes it again letting you deal with them one by one. You probably have around 40 shots left at this point so be careful with your ammo. Head left at the junction but don't step out into the courtyard just yet. Once you step on the walkway it starts to drop and if you are too slow you will end up in a pool of blood. The wall at the far end of the walkway is actually a disguise. You can walk through it and on the other side are three Imps. Sprint across the walkway, grabbing the shotgun and then deal with the Imps. Hit the switch and head left and then left again. Proceed through the door and kill the Imps and Cacodemon on the other side. Move through the next door and kill all the Demons in the tunnel. At this point I hadn't taken any damage at all but was very low on ammo. Move through all the remaining doors and kill the large group of Imps before stepping on the teleport to end the level1. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is in the last room. Activate the wall on the west side to reveal a Rocket Launcher.
E3M2 Slough Of Despair
This is a very difficult level to write a walkthrough for. If you go to your map and zoom out using the left bumper you will see it is shaped like a giant hand. I'll use this in my walkthrough. To start off with, very cautiously clear the entire palm of the hand. In the very centre in a tiny hidden alcove is a rocket launcher which is useful later in the level. The palm contains a few Cacodemons along with Imps, Sergeants and Lost Souls. Once they are all dead you will likely be low on ammo. Use you new rocket launcher and head to the far northwest opening, or the pinky. Move to the end and grab the key to trigger a trap behind you. A couple of Cacodemons attack but you can make short work of them with your Rocket Launcher. If they separate it is best to switch weapon to conserve ammo. Pick up all the goodies that they came with before heading to the ring finger and opening the blue door. Hit the switch and proceed through the teleport123. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is near the top left of the palm of the hand. Below the ring finger is a block of rock that at first glance appears to look just like the rest of them. On closer inspection you will see that it is actually stained with specs of blood. Activate the west side to get health a Plasma Rifle.
Secret 2 is at the end of the Middle finger. On the ground is an arrow that points at the switch. You are probably thinking it’s a trap but no they are being kind and instead it gives you a precious Soul Sphere. At this point you are thinking "I wonder what the other..." and it releases a horde of Spectres. This last part isn't part of the secret.
Secret 3 is at the tip of the thumb. Stand in the little plasma pool to make a wall lower and grant you a Chaingun. Now you have completed you weapon selection that you lost when you finished the last Episode, save for the chainsaw.
E3M3 Pandemonium
Very quickly kill the attacking demon before starting forwards into the open room. Kill the Imps moving down the stairs towards you but watch out for another Imp and Demon attack from your right. Make sure you grab all the ammo in the tiny alcoves before moving up the stairs. Hit the switch and kill the attacking demon coming down the stairs to your left. Grab the shotgun that the switch has just lowered for you before heading up the stairs to your right. Take a right and quickly kill the spectre before turning to face behind you. Wait here until the Demon comes into view. Kill it and move southeast. You should come to a large cliff. Drop off, move down the stairs and grab the blue key and ammo. Return to the large wooden room where you picked up the shotgun123. Go back down the stairs towards the start and go right. Kill the Cacodemon and other bad guys before moving into the room with the rotating walls. Kill the demons and grab the ammo in the centre console before advancing up the stairs and killing the Baron of Hell4. Move east through the inverted cross and head left at the door instead of going through it. See if you can spot the joke here56. Go over to the blue door and kill all the imps on the other side. Go through the final door and end the level. Exit.
Secrets
After picking up the blue skull key, return to the shotgun room and head down the stairs, only this time turn left. Kill the Imps in the cages before turning north and slowly advancing down the corridor. Watch out for the Spectre in a tiny alcove to your right. Secret 1 is just down a small passage at the end of this dark corridor. Fight your way across the bridge, killing the Lost Souls guarding it and then the Demons on the other side. Move down into a room full of lava and kill all the lost souls and the single Cacodemon. Step out onto the rock path and then take a right across the lava and through a Berserk power up. In this room is a rocket launcher.
Secret 2 is actually an alternate path to the end of secret 1. Instead of sprinting across the lava, head straight and take a right. Kill the imp and then hit the switch on the wall to raise the floor bringing with it two demons. Move across the now raised floor to get to the Rocket Launcher.
Go back the way you came and when you leave secret 1, turn right and then left into a room with acid on the floor. Watch out for Imps through a window above you. There is a tiny alcove round the corner to your right containing a Chaingun.
Make sure you have killed the Baron of Hell after the room with the rotating walls before attempting this. In the shotgun room mentioned in the walkthrough, climb the stairs to the west and head north. Drop off the balcony and head into the room with the cage walls. Move down the stairs at the southwest of the room and at the very base you will find some poisoned water that hurts you to stand in it. Next to the water is an invulnerability powerup. You are now ready to get Secret 4. Return to where you dropped down and step out onto the lava. Kill all the monsters that are going around. At the northwest of this room is a precious Soul Sphere but make sure you grab the Medikit at the northeast first to maximize healing. At the southwest of this room is your first chance to use the amazing BFG9000. Put the gun away and save it for another level as there is no need for it now.
Secret 5 is that joke I asked you about earlier. The joke is that hell has a reception desk. Step out onto the reception desk and you will notice a wall drops at the southwest of the room.
Secret 6 is in the southeast of the same room. Approach the wall and it should drop for you.
E3M4 House Of Pain
Kill the demon and wait in the starting room for two more privates to come round the corner. Move forwards and open fire on the barrels to your right to weaken the Demons. Kill any that survive12. Move up the stairs and clear the room ahead staying in your small passage. Once everyone is dead, save. Move to the northeast corner staying away from the two pits. Very carefully sprint between the two of them. If you did it right, neither should close. Approach the switches and hit the middle one. This will raise a pit containing a Chaingun. Sprint over the chaingun and turn around to see a crusher try to stop you. Do the same again with the left switch. Grab the invulnerability and quickly hit the last switch. Run round the corner at the southwest of the room and decimate any enemies you find. Move down the green hall and watch out for a trap on your left containing a large amount of sergeants and demons. Move forwards and take out the very large group of demons attacking from the centre path as well as the Cacodemon and Imps attacking from the left. Once they are all dead. Head to the far south or right path and deal with the lost souls and Baron of Hell. Pick up the blue key they were guarding and make your way to the blue door that is down the centre path. Go through the blue door and kill anyone that is attacking from the door on your left. Stand in the doorway and wait until everyone is dead. Don't enter this room however34. Instead, turn to your right and activate the odd wall. It reveals another room. Step into the red to open a trap on your right. This is full of demons and so deal with them before advancing. Watch out as the red floor hurts you. To open the door you must step into the puddle of water in the corner. From here move forwards with your Chaingun or Plasma Rifle equipped to deal with the enormous amount of enemies. Eventually you will end up in a room with four door and eight switches. Make sure this room is clear before hitting any of the switches. First hit the south switch on the west pillar. This opens a room with an invulnerability powerup in it but don't pick it up. Instead, enter the room and shoot at the demons through the tiny window. Next hit the west switch on the west pillar to open the room with the demons in and grab the yellow skull key. Next hit the west switch on the east pillar and clear the room with the yellow door in. Go through the door and get the red skull key. Lastly, hit the south switch on the east pillar to open the final door. Kill the demon and lost soul before returning to your invulnerability. Push forwards through the red door and kill each threat as you pass them. First a private, then an imp, a lost soul5, a demon, a Cacodemon, and finally a Baron of Hell. Make sure you are using your Plasma Rifle here otherwise you won't be able to kill them fast enough. Drop down with the Plasma Rifle still equipped and kill all the demons and lone Cacodemon. Move through the tiny door at the southeast of the room and make your way to the exit. A cacodemon is waiting for you so make sure you kill it fast because there isn't much room to move around. Head through the teleport to complete the level. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is to your right when you start. Head down the corridor into the room with a river of intestines running through it. At the southeast of this room is a small wall that can open to reveal a shotgun.
Secret 2 is to your left when you start. Slowly move into the room with your shotgun equipped and take out the caged Cacodemon to your left. Then switch to your Rocket Launcher and take out the two other Cacodemons in the cage to your right. Move round the corner and kill any resistance before heading through the teleport with the chaingun equipped. Open fire on the two Spectres and with the Chaingun you are firing too fast for them to retaliate. Once they are dead, shoot through the window to kill the demons and lost souls. Head back through the teleport and go through the door. Grab the goodies and watch as a trap door opens to release a bunch of dead guys.
Secret 3 is just after you go thought the blue door. Go through the door to your left and make your way through the rooms until you end up in a large open room full of nasties. There is a door to the north, south and west, plus the door you just came through. The west door contains some imps, some demons, a spectre and a Baron of Hell and so is best avoided. The north door leads to a tiny room filled with lava. At the back of the room is a drop that leads to a switch that raises the ground so you can escape. Also at the bottom of this hole is your second BFG9000. Again, resist the temptation to use it. It will only make it all the better when that special encounter finally arrives.
Secret 4 is through the south door in the previous room. At first it looks clear. Shoot the barrels and then activate the west wall to reveal two demons and a huge amount of rocket ammo.
Secret 5 can be useful if you are taking too long with your invulnerability. Activate the back wall of the small alcove the lost soul spawns in after going through the red door. This reveals a radiation suit that will help you cross the blood safely.
E3M5 Unholy Cathedral
You start the level with a choice of four doors. Go through either of the centre doors and grab the box of shotgun shells before returning to the start and going through the western most door1. Go through the door directly ahead and use you shotgun to deal with the Imps in this confined space. Cautiously step out into the next room and pick off all the demons and imps retreating through the door if necessary2. At the far north of this room are three Cacodemons, however you only need to fight two. Proceed to the northeast of the room where you will find three doors. Take the far left door to sneak behind a demon. Kill it and take the eastern door of this room. Go round the bend, kill the demon and step through the red arch to open the grill to the north. In the room are a number of Lost Souls as well as a pair of Spectres. When you enter the room you will hear a wall opening behind you. This releases a Baron of Hell. Make sure you go back and kill it so it doesn't catch you by surprise later. In the large room are four crushers. Three of them contain switches and one contains a teleport. Hit the switch at the northeast to lower the blue skull key at the northwest alcove345678910. Now head through the teleport at the southwest and hold your fire. This is the perfect opportunity to try out the BFG9000. Equip the gun and fire at the one slightly to the left of the centre demon. This should kill all but one of the demons. If he runs through the teleport, don't worry about him. Head to the south door of this room after you grab all the assorted powerups. Fight your way through the Imps and Lost Souls and make sure the whole room is clear before heading through the blue door. The finish is on your left. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is after going through the west door at the very start of the level. Activate the west wall to release a demon. Push forwards and kill the lost soul before picking up the light amplification goggles.
Secret 2 is through a large door in the large room with pillars at the west side of the map. When you open the second door, the one behind you locks and you are trapped in the room with a group of demons. To escape, grab the soul sphere and plasma rifle before hitting the switch at the far west of the room.
Secret 3 is in the room at the far north of the map. Activate the switch in the crusher at the southeast of the map. This opens small compartments at the end of all six long alcoves. One of them contains a rocket launcher and the rest contain health and ammo. The switch at the northwest lowers a Chaingun but that isn't part of the secret.
To get to Secret 4, go to the long northern room after killing the demon as normal. In this room there are two northwestern walls. One next to the grill and another closer to the door you came from. Activate the most western point of this wall to open it leading to an acid filled room and some stairs containing ammo. From these stairs, try to kill any enemies below.
Now return to the room where you snuck behind the demon. Head round the small corner at the west of this room to see a closed grill. Step across the acid to open it but don't enter the room. Enter the room with the plasma rifle equipped to quickly kill anyone that gets in your way. Take an immediate right and Secret 5 is through the wall between the two blue, upright tuning fork looking symbols. It contains a Radsuit which allows you to navigate this room without taking any damage.
Secret 6 is through the teleport. Go through with your rocket launcher equipped and immediately turn to your south to face three angry Cacodemons. In the room they came from is the yellow key.
Secret 7 is at the east of the large courtyard. Activate the wall slightly to the right of the most eastern wall to get a soul sphere and a chainsaw.
Secret 8 is reached by going through the teleport at the northwest of the courtyard. When you go through the teleport you will be in a room full of demons. Use the BFG9000 and fire at the one just left of the centre demon to kill all but one. Head through the door to the west and then through the door to your immediate south. This will teleport you to the middle where a wall will open and release a Baron of Hell.
Secret 9 is reached by going through the teleport at the northwest of the courtyard, then heading through the door to the west. Follow this long curved room round and head through the door at the south of the west end of the room. This will teleport you to the middle where a wall will open and release a Baron of Hell.
Secret 10 is reached by going through the teleport at the northwest of the courtyard, then heading through the door to the south. Follow this long curved room round and head through the door at the west of the south end of the room. This will teleport you to the middle where a wall will open and release a Baron of Hell.
E3M6 Mt. Erebus
For those of you who don't known, Mount Erebus is an active volcano in Antarctica. Its sister volcano is Mount Terror and the name Erebus comes from the Greek God of Darkness, the son of Chaos. That about sums up this level. It is one of the longest and most confusing in the game. When you spawn, take out the lone sergeant with a single shotgun blast so you don't draw attention to yourself. Head through the door and focus your fire on the Baron of Hell and Imps in the balcony above. Once they are dead, move up the stairs at the northeast of this room and kill the four sergeants and any other enemies that are still alive. There is another small flight of stairs at the top of this room that leads to health. Return to the balcony where the Baron of Hell was and wait. If you were quick you will have time to prepare. Five Cacodemons are about to come through the door behind you and so make sure you have a decent weapon at the ready. When they are all dead, save and drop off the ledge at the top of the room. Do your best to stay alive and stay in the area so you don't trigger yet more monsters. Try your best to avoid walking into the horse shoe shaped area because this releases lots of Imps and Lost Souls. Do a couple of laps around the large courtyard just to make sure everybody is dead. Try to scout every part of this outdoor area. Some points you might want to cover are the large grey steps leading to a huge weapon selection as well as many enemies and there is also a walkway that leads to a platform out in the middle of the lava. When you reach the platform, the walkway drops leaving you stranded. Sprint back to safety and try to find health. After a while you will probably bump into a very large group of lost souls. Chaingun and plasma rifle are your friend here but you will likely run out of ammo for one of them. Eventually you will end up with only three places to go. Into the building with the vine walls, into the building with the green walls or out onto the lava to some of the tiny rooms1. Approach the green building and kill the four imps in the cages at the front. Open the door but stay outside to kill the enemies because it locks behind you once you enter. When you are satisfied, enter the room and kill anyone who might have hidden. In the centre of the room is a level that spans the width of the room2. Approach the southwest wall while on this level and activate it to raise the wall and reveal a secret teleport that gets you out of the room. Pass through the teleport and immediately equip a gun to deal with Cacodemons and lost souls. You have no room to move around or else you will fall. Kill them as fast as possible. If you do fall there is a teleport at the base of the structure that takes you to the entrance of the green building3. Once the enemies are dead, drop down into the square whole below and go through the teleport. Kill the approaching Imps and Sergeants but be aware that Cacodemons will join the fight soon. This is a tough fight as you are in very close quarters. Once you kill all the enemies, move forwards and take a left to reach the blue skull key. Then return and take another left and activate the switch. Now return to where you teleported into this room and you will find a wall has been lowered allowing you to escape. Drop out and find a radiation suit. Once you have one, you will need to find a very small passage near where you dropped down a second ago. It is right next to a group of five Cacodemons that you likely met after picking up the blue key. Move down the submerged passage and open the blue door. Pass through the final teleport to finish the level. Exit.4
Secrets
Secret 1 is in the vine covered building. Enter the building and kill the two Spectres. Turn to face the door and pass through the teleport on your right. Grab the goodies before returning to the same room and heading through the opposite teleport. Grab the plasma rifle and kill the attacking Cacodemons.
Secret 2 is in the green building. On the opposite wall to the teleport is another secret compartment that contains a plasma battery.
Secret 3 is another pillar near you when you pass through the teleport in the green building. You only have one shot at this because the pillar rises if you miss.
Secret 4 is the secret exit to this level. To get there you will need at least one rocket and an invulnerability or a lot of surplus health. To get an invulnerability, head to the horseshoe shaped zone in the centre of the map. This releases lost souls and imps. In the room the imps come from is an invulnerability. Make sure you save before you pick it up in case you don't make it. You might want to try a practice run first so you know where you are going. I highly recommend it. Grab the powerup and sprint to the green building and head through the teleport. Very carefully move round to your right on a very narrow platform. Below you is a small, blue, rectangular, open room containing the switch. Move to the very end of the platform and put your back to the switch so you are facing the wall. Sprint back and fire a rocket at the wall. This should send you back with enough force to land in the room. Activate the switch to send you to the secret level.
E3M9 Warrens
Once again, the secret level in this episode has a little story in it. You will start up the level and play for around a minute before you think to yourself, "Isn't this where I entered hell?" The answer to that is yes. You are back in the first level. I don't want to spoil the surprise so I suggest you play this level while reading the walkthrough rather than reading the whole level first. I'll reuse the walkthrough from the first level until it differs. Activate the flesh switch on the wall ahead and ride the elevator up. Kill the three Imps and make your way over to the large door. Hit the switch on the left of the door which reveals two Cacodemons, if you can without losing too much health, hit the switch on the right of the door which closes it again letting you deal with them one by one. Or is it? As the walls around you lower you realize the horrible truth. Hell is about to mount another offensive on Mars and in turn, Earth. And to lead this invasion they have found themselves another Cyber demon. Of course you could run to the other side of the map and grab the invulnerability but a real doom player doesn't need such things. He kills things with a rocket launcher. Grab as much ammo as you can without putting yourself at risk before unleashing an explosive hell of your own on the cyber demon. Watch out for the blocks as you can cause some serious damage to yourself if you aren't careful. Once he lays dead, step on the teleport again to hear a loud click. Head back through the door but watch out for the two Cacodemons that have spawned on your left. Move through the next door and deal with the Baron of Hell. Head across the lava and kill the lost souls and grab the goodies which include a chaingun. Head through the next door and kill the six spectres in the large open room. Hit the switch to grab the goodies and release four more spectres. Move down the narrow passage and through the door. Now you have to kill three more Cacodemons before you can grab the plasma rifle and go through the next door. Return to the starting area and move to the east side and head down the new passage but for god sake hold you fire. When you are teleported you will find yourself in a bit of a situation. Think logically about how to get out of there in one piece. Before you open fire or even move you should be made aware of all the facts. When you fire, 34 sergeants will come out of alcoves and shoot you. The way out is south so that is the way you want to go as fast as you can. A method I found that works is to equip the chaingun and slowly inch along the west wall heading south. The eastern most cacodemon will spot you and move away for a second before turning to fire at you. During this time when it is putting some distance between you and it, sprint out of the gap and chaingun your way through the sergeants to the exit. The chaingun can kill a sergeant in a fraction of a second but keep firing continuously to escape. Don't turn back until you are round the corner. You are likely low on health so don't be afraid to venture back into the map to find health. When you return you will likely find that the sergeants and cacodemons have gone to war on each other making it an easier fight for you. The trap teleport doesn't work more than once so don't fear. Clear out anyone still alive and move over to the red key. When you pick it up a Baron of Hell is released ahead of you so deal with that any way you like. If you are low on plasma ammo and health and think you are up to the challenge, pick up the plasma battery. This releases three more Barons of Hell. By now I imagine that you are fairly good at the game and so if you want to conserve ammo, take out all three using only the shotgun. You likely have max ammo after picking up so many shotguns and so you should need to worry. I managed to take out all three without losing any health, the last one falling just as I reached the entrance to the outside area. Go back for the soul sphere and head to the switch at the right of the first door. You will find the switch has risen and in its place is a red door. Head through to the proper finish. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is in the room that is crammed full of Imps near the teleport that spawns the Cyber demon. Activate the west wall to reveal a secret compartment.
E3M7 Gate To Limbo
Limbo is the state between heaven and hell. It can also be described as purgatory, an abyss of infinite nothingness. When you start this level, immediately kill the four sergeants and approaching demons. Move forwards into the large chamber before turning to face two Cacodemons that have spawned behind you. I should tell you now that you want to finish this level with plenty of health so save at the start and don't overwrite it in case you can't regain any health. Go back for the backpack that was in the room with the Cacodemons. Head across the walkway to your west and kill the demons that come from the west and south. Move west and then head north, killing any more demons that appear1. Head to the far southwest of this room and grab the blue skull key2. Return to the centre chamber and this time head east and then north through the blue door. Staying at the south side of the blood river, deal with the three Cacodemons that are hiding in alcoves. Cross the bridge but be careful because it closes once you are across. Drop down the hole into blood and run forwards to safety. You are now in the submerged maze. There are limited radiation suits so careful not to pick two up but you should be able to do it in one. Come back here later for more radiation suits3. Take one of the suits and head directly east until you see another room full of radiation suits and a sergeant. Head north and then east. There is a small kink when you have to head south for a fraction of a second and then after that, head north. As you turn the corner, facing east, you should be able to see a teleport. Instead of walking through it, take a left and head south and then east. Kill the sergeant, grab the red skull key, take the radiation suit, go through the door, hit the switch and head through the teleport you passed a second ago. You will find yourself near where you first picked up the blue skull key. Save here because you have limited time to solve a puzzle. Head to the far west of this room, out onto the lava where you will find a small room containing a teleport. Head through the teleport, kill all the lost souls if you can see any and hit the switch. If at any time you run out of radiation suit, return to the maze and use the teleporter to get out. Now go to the centre chamber and head north. If you are running low on radiation suit, there is one just in an alcove in the southeast of this room. Head to the large pillar containing a teleport at the northwest of this room. Go through the teleport and kill as many enemies as you can from a distance. Then hit the switch behind you. Return through the teleport and head to the other pillar in this room at the east end. Go through and pick up the yellow key. Return through the teleport and head to the pillar at the centre of the main chamber. Go through, cross the now raised bridge and through the yellow door. Activate the switch, return through the teleport4 and head west and then north and through the final teleport. Cross the now raised bridge and through the final door. Exit.
Secrets
Secret 1 is in the room with the blue skull key. There is a small corridor in this room with some very minor health and armor bonus'. However, passing down this corridor opens another room on the opposite side of the wall to your northwest full of enemies and a blue amour.
Secret 2 is a switch in the blood just to the west of the blue skull key. Hit the switch and head north towards a previously closed grey, rock room. It contains three cacodemons and a soul sphere.
Secret 3 is in the maze. Pick up a radiation suit at the start and head east and then immediately south and then head east straight away. Turn the corner so you are facing south and kill the sergeant before grabbing the BFG9000. Don't use the teleport unless you already have the red key. If you come back to the maze later, use this teleport for a quicker escape.
Secret 4 is through the southern of the two blue doors at the far east of the map. Head into the large room and take a right down a small alcove. Press the switch which lowers a very large area of wall and releases a Baron of Hell. Kill the Baron of Hell and hit the switch to raise a bridge granting you access to the teleport in the southwest of the room. You must have the red key to use this teleport. Go through and grab the plasma rifle before returning back through the teleport.
E3M8 Dis
Here we are once again, the last level. Dis is the capital of hell and like most capitals around the world; the capital is home to whoever is in charge of the country. This is your first encounter with the Spider Mastermind. He is in charge of the Cyber Demons sent from hell to attack the moon bases of Mars and lead an assault on Earth. You have to stop him. Run forwards and grab the rocket launcher. Take a left and keep up on the balcony grabbing the rocket ammo. Shoot two rockets at the Cacodemon to kill it. Keep running along the balcony until you are in the northwest of the map. Kill the Baron of Hell before advancing. Keep running along the balcony. You will probably bump into the second Cacodemon before you reach the northeast of the map. Fire two rockets to take it down quick. Now focus your fire on the approaching Spider Mastermind. Do not drop off the balcony or else you will be stuck in a corner with it. Stay as far away from it as possible. If you fall off the balcony, immediately run to the centre of the map and keep the large pillar at the centre between you and it. Once out of rockets, use either the BFG9000 or the Plasma Rifle to finish off the weakening monster. If you should run out of plasma as well, you can open the centre pillar to reveal a plasma rifle. Do this only as a last resort though because this effectively removes your only cover. Once the spider demon is dead watch the closing cinematic and the only cutscene in Doom. Just wait for a while after the text appears to see the short clip.
